ø 10 mm -
Yggdrasil (the tree of life) was in Nordic mythology a huge ash tree. Its evergreen crown goes all the way up to the sky, and its three roots end in three different worlds:
the one in the underground Hell, where the dragon Nidhug gnaws in it and where Urd's well is located. The other leads past Mimer's well to Jotunheim. The
third passes Hvergelmer and leads to Niflheim.
In Yggdrasil's crown live four deer, Dain, Dvalin, Dunør and Duratro, which eat the fresh leaves of the tree. At the top sits an eagle and on its beak hawk Vederfølner,
looking out over the world. A small squirrel, Ratatosk, arrows up and down the trunk, bringing news from the roots to the top. During Ragnarok, the tree is torn up with
rooted and burned as a result of the great forest fires which ravaged at that time.
Vikings ca. 800 - 1,100 AD
